• Accommodation: Fellows are responsible for their accommodations. However, assistance with finding suitable options will be provided.

Curriculum Overview

Month 1: The Fundamentals of Robotic Surgery

• Surgeon Console Test Drive: Hands-on exploration of robotic surgery’s functions and benefits.
• In-Service Training (2 Hours): Mastering critical elements like:
  • Port placement and docking
  • Intraoperative management and troubleshooting
  • Emergency undocking procedures
• Assisting in 10 Robotic Surgeries as the first assistant to refine observation and interaction skills.
• Online Learning Module Completion: Earn your training certificate after passing the assessment.

Month 2: Simulation and Case Insights

• Simulator Training (25 Hours): Hone hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
• Continue assisting in surgeries, building confidence and familiarity.
• Case Reviews and Discussions: Deep dive into Dr. Urmila Soman’s and other surgeons’ procedure videos, including robotic hysterectomies and reconstructive surgeries.

Month 3: Advanced Skills Development

• Skill Drill for Suturing: Perfect essential suturing techniques with focused guidance.
• Continue assisting in surgeries to gain real-world exposure.
• Pre-Console Training In-Service: Detailed preparation for independent console surgeries.

Months 4–6: Console Mastery and Leadership

• Perform specific steps in surgeries under Dr. Urmila Soman’s supervision to develop console fluency.
• Engage in video review analysis to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
• Mentor and guide new fellows during their initial training phase, enhancing leadership skills.

Completion and Certification

• Achieve Console Certification from Intuitive Surgical, endorsed by Dr. Urmila Soman, after performing 20 robotic surgeries under her expert guidance.
• Submit case logs and receive a personalized letter of recommendation.

Note: Specific surgical steps completed under supervision will be counted as cases. Logs must be meticulously maintained and verified.
