Curriculum Overview
Month 1: Foundations and Hands-On Basics
- Week 1: Observation Week
- Gain an understanding of laparoscopic equipment, techniques, and workflows.
- Observe complex procedures such as laparoscopic hysterectomies, adnexal surgeries, and myomectomies performed by Dr. Urmila Soman.
Weeks 2–4: Hands-On Exposure to Basic Procedures
- Supervised Practice: Perform basic laparoscopic tasks (e.g., camera navigation, port insertion).
- Assist in procedures like diagnostic laparoscopy, cystectomies, and basic adhesiolysis.
- Skill Drill Sessions: Focus on suturing, knot tying, and safe tissue handling.
Month 2: Assisting and Advanced Exposure
- Surgical Assisting: First Assistant in 20 laparoscopic cases, including hysterectomies, endometriosis surgeries, and tubal surgeries.
- Gain proficiency in advanced laparoscopic instruments and techniques.
- Case Reviews & Discussions: Detailed debriefs of surgeries with Dr. Urmila Soman, focusing on challenges, outcomes, and improvements.
- Simulator Practice (Optional): Practice specific laparoscopic scenarios to enhance precision and skill.
Month 3: Independent Case Management
- Independent Surgeries: Perform 10 laparoscopic cases under the supervision of Dr. Urmila Soman.
- Focus on surgical planning, execution, and troubleshooting.
- Video Analysis: Review and refine techniques through recorded surgeries.
- Mentorship Development: Assist in training junior fellows to reinforce leadership and teaching skills.
Completion and Certification
Upon successful completion, fellows will receive a Certificate of Advanced Gynecologic Laparoscopy Training from Dr. Urmila Soman’s Centre for Minimally Invasive Gynaecology.
